The 2026 staging of Wireless Festival has been cancelled following a decision by the U.K. Home Office to ban Ye from entering the country. The announcement, made on Tuesday, comes amid escalating controversy surrounding his planned appearance at the London event and growing pressure from industry stakeholders and sponsors who have withdrawn their support
The cancellation follows a written statement from Ye addressing the backlash. In a letter titled “To Those I’ve Hurt,” he said his intention was to “present a show of change,” highlighting themes of unity, peace, and reconciliation. The message arrived as multiple sponsors and partners reportedly withdrew their support, reflecting mounting commercial fallout tied to his recent public remarks and behavior.
In the statement, Ye expressed a willingness to engage directly with members of the Jewish community in the UK, acknowledging that “words aren’t enough” and that meaningful change must be demonstrated through actions. “If you’re open, I’m here,” he wrote, signaling a notable shift in tone as corporate partners began reassessing their relationships with the artist.
Following the letter, one of the UK’s leading Jewish organizations invited Ye to a meeting on the condition that he cancel his planned 2026 London performance—an outcome that has now effectively been realized with the festival’s cancellation.
Prior to the shutdown, Wireless Festival organizer Melvin Benn had publicly defended keeping Ye as a headliner despite sponsor withdrawals. Benn acknowledged the backlash over the artist’s past remarks, describing them as “abhorrent,” while reaffirming his own stance as a “deeply committed anti-fascist.” However, he maintained that the festival was not a platform for censorship, arguing that Ye’s music remains widely accessible across UK radio and streaming services and that the event was intended to showcase music rather than political views
Benn confirms in an interview with the BBC that Pepsi initially approved Ye’s appearance at Wireless Festival before pulling their sponsorship. “We did with Pepsi for instance, our lead sponsor, and they signed off and approved it,” he said indicating that the beverage company initially was happy to have Ye.
