On Friday November 29, The British Phonographic industry announced that 13 albums and 62 singles earned new certifications representing streams and sales as measured by the Official Charts Company. The certifications, which span multiple genres and decades, reflect the continued success and longevity of these artists in the competitive UK market.
Albums
Green Day’s Greatest Hits – God’s Favorite Band (Reprise) has been awarded a Platinum 2x certification, signifying over 600,000 units sold in the UK since its release in November 17, 2017. This marks another significant achievement for the American punk rock band, whose influence continues to resonate globally. Similarly, 50 Cent’s Best Of (Polydor/UMR) also achieved Platinum 2x status, reflecting strong ongoing sales for the hip-hop artist’s iconic compilation, released in March 2017.
The Weeknd’s The Highlights (Republic Records/XO) has achieved a Platinum 4x certification, further cementing the Canadian artist’s position as one of the most successful pop acts in recent years. Released in February 2021, the album continues to perform strongly across streaming platforms and physical sales.
Meanwhile, Arctic Monkeys’ 2006 debut Whatever People Say I Am, That’s What I’m Not (Domino Recordings) has earned a staggering Platinum 8x certification. This is a testament to the enduring popularity of the Sheffield band, whose breakthrough album remains a cornerstone of British indie rock. Released in January 2006, the album continues to be a fan favorite and a staple in the UK music scene.
Two more recent releases have earned their place in the UK’s certification history. Ghost’s Prequelle (Loma Vista) earned a Silver certification, signifying 60,000 units sold, following its October 2023 release. The Swedish rock band’s blend of theatrical metal and melodic hooks continues to find a growing fanbase. Similarly, Inhaler’s debut It Won’t Always Be Like This (Polydor), released in July 2021, earned Silver status after achieving significant success on the UK charts.
Singles with Gold, Platinum, and Silver Certifications
Several iconic singles have also achieved new certifications in the UK. Green Day’s “Good Riddance (Time of Your Life)”and 50 Cent’s “In Da Club” continue to resonate with UK audiences, with multiple certifications marking their continued popularity.
Ghost’s “Mary on a Cross”, Azealia Banks’ “212”, and Lauryn Hill’s “Doo Wop (That Thing)” each reached Platinum 2x status, confirming their ongoing relevance in the modern music landscape. These tracks, along with the likes of Tory Lanez’s “Say It” and Avenged Sevenfold’s “Hail to the King”, represent some of the most iconic songs of the 2010s and early 2020s.
Other standout singles include Britney Spears’ “Toxic”, which earned Platinum 3x certification, and The Weeknd’s “Call Out My Name” which also achieved Platinum 2x status. Oasis’s classic hit “Wonderwall” reached Platinum 8x certification, underscoring the enduring legacy of one of the UK’s most successful rock bands.
Additionally, several singles have been awarded Gold certifications, including Clairo’s “Sofia”, Juice WRLD’s “Lean Wit Me”, and Taylor Swift’s “Miss Americana & The Heartbreak Prince”, all of which continue to dominate streaming and chart performance.
