75 Projects Submitted For Best Reggae Album at 67th Annual Grammy Awards

First round voting is now opened for the 67th Annual Grammy Awards and some of the biggest names in reggae and dancehall have submitted their projects for consideration.

For the prestigious Best Reggae Album category, 75 submissions were sent to eligible Grammy voters on Friday, marking a ten-entry increase from last year’s 65.

Jamaican artists make up the majority of submissions, roughly accounting for around 55% of the total list. Non-Jamaican artists (mostly from the U.S., Caribbean, and other regions) make up about 45%. The rest fall into the mixed category for collaborations or compilation projects.

The submissions include projects from heavyweights like Vybz Kartel, Spice, UB40, and Masicka, alongside notable works from other distinguished artists and emerging talents.

The hottest contender for the Best Reggae Album is Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By The Film released Feb. 14 via Tuff Gong/Island Records features 10 fresh interpretations of Marley’s classics by Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Shenseea, Leon Bridges, Farruko, Jessie Reyes, Mystic Marley, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley.

Dancehall superstar Vybz Kartel, has submitted Party With Me for consideration. The 8 track EP was released on May 31st, two months before the deejay was released from prison.

Spice
Known as the Queen of Dancehall, Spice is vying for Best Reggae Album Grammy recognition with her submission Mirror 25, released in August.

UB40
Veteran reggae band UB40 is making their mark yet again with their submission UB45. Known for their hits like “Red Red Wine” and “Can’t Help Falling in Love,” UB40’s legacy in reggae music is undeniable, and their entry promises to bring a nostalgic yet refreshing sound to the category.

Masicka
One of the leaders of the new school of dancehall, Masicka, is a name that cannot be ignored. His submission Generation of Kings released via Def Jam Records is shot contender.

Shenseea
Shenseea has proven herself to be a force in reggae and dancehall. Her submission of her third studio album Never Gets Late Here via Interscope Records would be a hot surprise for both fans and detractors of the Dating San singer.

The 67th Grammy Awards promise to be an exciting year for the Best Reggae Album category, with seasoned veterans and rising stars alike competing for the coveted title. Reggae music continues to evolve, and this year’s submissions are a testament to its enduring power and influence across the globe.
