In her acceptance speech the 41 yearold dancehall star said, “Look at God over yahsuh, goodnight besties, first me half big up fawda God who is the head of my life me never do nuts without him. I have been in the business for 20 years, it’s not an overnight success. I want to dedicate this to my bestie them cause me have the best fans in the world. This is not a small this this is a very big thing.”
The Dancehall Queen took the crown uncontested when Lady Saw entered gospel music and changed her stage name to Marion Hall. Her fellow nominees Shenseea who recently earned a RIAA Gold certification for Pure Souls and Stefflon Don have both expressed that they have no interest in becoming a Dancehall Queen.
Stefflon Don, with who she has the collaboration ‘Clockwork’ told Anthony Miller of Entertainment Report that she does not want the title of Dancehall Queen even if her sales numbers surpass everyone.
“I would not call myself Queen of the Dancehall. Listen, Spice has that title and so be it. She deserves it. She’s been in the game a long time, from she was young, and she’s still killing it. I’m not the Queen of no Dancehall”
She continued, “I don’t just do Dancehall, I do a lot of other genres. So I do not claim that title at all – even if my numbers are more than anybody else’s.”
