Ice Spice‘s Gimmie A Light, which samples Sean Paul’s classic Gimme The Light, struggles to gain traction on global music streaming platforms. Since its release on May 10, the song has only managed to peak at #30 in Finland, #76 in Austria, and #117 in South Africa on iTunes Charts.

Ice Spice is set to released her debut album via 10k Projects which is owned by Elliot Grainge, the son of Lucian Grainge, chairman and CEO of Universal Music Group, one of the big three records labels.
“Gimme the Light” is Sean Paul’s breakout single from his album “Dutty Rock,” released under VP Records and Atlantic Records. The song was originally released in Jamaica in 2001 as “Give Me the Light,” it gained international popularity upon its 2002 release. Produced by Troyton Rami & Roger Mackenzie, the song marked Paul’s first major hit, reaching number seven on the US Billboard Hot 100 and peaking in the top-20 status in several other countries.
It is notable for being the leading track from the “Buzz” riddim, the debut production of Troyton Rami & Roger Mackenzie as a duo for Black Shadow Records in Miami, Florida. Other songs on the riddim include Mad Cobra’s Press Trigger which has sold 19,000 units in the US according to Luminate.
Sean Paul told WMV that all of his hits including “Gimme The Light” is owned by VP Records.
