Dancehall artist Popcaan’s third OVO Sound project which features Drake, Burna Boy, and Toni Ann Singh has sold 13,900 units over its lifetime (Including all on-demand streams from singles previous released) as of February 6, 2022.
Since the project was officially released on January 27 3200 album equivalent units were sold in the U.S. accounting for the first week sales according to data provided exclusively to WMV by our Billboard sales trackers Luminate.
The project sold 300 pure album copies over the same period.
The artwork for “Great Is He” sees the “Next To Me” artist in a mirror frame dressed in a European hat similar to the style worn by UNIA founder Marcus Garvey in the 1920s.
Last July when Burna Boy’s Gold selling album Love, Damini dropped, millions of fans all over the world the have streamed the track T.A.S. (Toni-Ann Singh), which debuted on the US Afrobeats chart at No. 12 made it to No. 47 on the U.S. Afrobeats Year-End Chart.
Amilar “Cobe” Smith, Popcaan’s manager and the producer of T.A.S along with Anju Blaxx, told WMV exclusively at the time: “It is originally a Popcaan song but we were in some business with Burna Boy to get a feature so we did a swap.”
A “song swap” is music industry jargon meaning there is the possibility of a Burna Boy feature on Popcaan’s upcoming album “Great Is He.” An album originally scheduled to drop last fall.
With tongues wagging about the Miss Jamaica World Toni-Ann Singh’s relationship with dancehall DJ Popcaan, the pair has since dropped their own No. 1 Reggae iTunes hit “Next To Me” as the first single from the album.
Popcaan’s released a second single “We Caa Done” featuring Drake and it debuted at No. 3 on the Spotify’s “Top Songs Debut” on January 6-8.
“Great Is He” missed the U.K. weekly top 100 albums chart by Official Charts, but The single We Can Done featuring Drake has spent four weeks on U.K. single charts moving down to No. 70 last week after peaking at 37 the previous week.
We Ca Done has so far accumulated 7,886,766 streams on Spotify after peaking at No. 155 on January 13Popcaan’s most streamed song on Spotify is his EDM feature on AlunaGeorge’s single “I’m In Control” with 17,148,678 streams.
“Great Is He” is expected to debut on the Reggae Billboard chart which will be released tomorrow Tuesday February 7. The album peaked at No. 1 on Apple Music in the British Virgin Islands, Cayman Islands, #1 Dominica, #1 Gambia, Jamaica, and Uganda on Apple Music. The album peaked at No. 1 on the U.S. reggae iTunes.
