“A Blessing—You’re Actually Breaking the News to Me”: Christopher Martin Elated as “Paper Loving” Earns UK Silver Certification

Christopher Martin

Christopher Martin has earned his first-ever certification in the United Kingdom. His 2011 breakout hit “Paper Lovin’” is now officially certified Silver by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI), crossing over 200,000 sales and streaming-equivalent units as of June 6, 2025.

The track, produced by ZJ Chrome and released via CR203 Productions, marks not only a personal milestone for Martin but a historic one for Jamaican television. Martin is now the first artist to come out of Digicel Rising Stars, Jamaica’s popular talent competition, to receive a UK certification.

World Music Views broke the news to Martin via phone call, catching the artist completely by surprise.

Christopher Martin: “Oh wow! That’s my very first Silver solo project—big one! A blessing. You’re actually breaking the news to me right now, so good vibes.”

Reflecting on the song’s origins, Martin recalled that the idea for “Paper Lovin’” came naturally on the Cardiac Bass Riddim.

“ZJ Chrome produced it. I was just listening to the riddim and the first thing that came to me was, ‘If you can’t love me now, don’t love me when me have me paper.’ It wasn’t about anyone in particular, just a real feeling—and I think people relate to that.”

With 78 million global streams on Spotify, 7.4 million YouTube streams and growing UK support, fans of Martin have not seen him perform a solo show live in a while. When asked if he plans to tour the UK soon, the singer confirmed:

“Definitely. I’ve done spot dates, but not a full UK tour. The fans always support me—whether it’s Manchester, Birmingham, or London. So yeah, look out for that!”

On what fans can expect from his live show, Martin emphasized variety and energy.

“It all depends on where we are. In Africa, you’re getting a two-and-a-half-hour show with live music. In the Caribbean or North America, it’s usually a solid hour and a half—high energy, high vibes. I always give the fans the sugar!”

Martin also stated that “Paper Lovin’” remains a staple in his performances, and he’s grateful it continues to resonate over a decade later.

“That song is still a remote-control moment. People love it. I feel good, and this just adds to it.”
