Bob Marley sneakers are set to be released by Adidas, following the success of the “Bob Marley: One Love” movie in North America and Globally. The German company announced a special edition SL 72 runner in collaboration with the estate of the reggae legend, Bob Marley, during the summer of 2024. This release pays homage to Marley’s enduring influence on music and culture, encapsulating his message of unity, love, and social justice.
The Bob Marley x Adidas SL 72, identified by style code JP5171, showcases Bob Marley’s likeness and name on both the tongue and sockliner, with the artist’s signature elegantly embossed in gold on the heel. Featuring a black upper complemented by green and wine-colored accents along the sole, this shoe embodies Marley’s iconic style.
While Adidas has not previously released an official sneaker in collaboration with Bob Marley or his estate, the legendary musician was known to be a fan of the brand, often seen wearing Adidas apparel and footwear, including the SL 72 model. Although the upcoming SL 72 marks the first official Bob Marley x Adidas sneaker, Adidas has previously produced shoes associated with Marley, some directly linked to him and others less overtly.
In 2008, Adidas collaborated with Marley’s label, Tuff Gong, on the Adidas Pro Model. This year, coinciding with the release of the movie “Bob Marley: One Love,” which reignited public interest in Marley, Adidas embarked on Jamaica-themed projects. Additionally, designer Jerry Lorenzo unveiled a Bob Marley collection under Fear of God Athletics, his line in partnership with Adidas.
