American Rapper BIA Interpolates Jamaican Personality ‘Rosie Tutty Gran’ On ‘Four Seasons’

Multi-Platinum rapper BIA, born Bianca Landrau, drew for viral Jamaican sensation Rosie on the female empowerment track “Four Seasons” from her latest EP “Really Her.” The 1:39 song starts off with the Epic Records artist rapping in her usual raspy flow, then at the 1:02 mark, an edited version of Rosie’s voice from her Television interview is heard in the interlude saying:

“Never ‘ave been seeing this yet
And I dey here before my maiden tek and mi neva see it yet
So anybody see it dem lie, cah we neva see it yet
And we want back everyting
Laptop, phone, everyting
Everyting, everyting, everyting
Everyting, everyting”

The song turns into a reggaeton bop with Rosie repeating “Everyting” as the hook of the song for the last few seconds.

Rosie, born Bridgette Bailey, became popular as ‘Tutty Gran Rosie’, or “Call Di Contracta” after a 2013 news report went viral due to her animated conduct. In the video which has since been widely shared on the internet, Rosie demanded “Justice” and alleged that her house was flooded due to a faulty contractor’s work. She cried out “call the contractor” because the houses on Sunlight Street Kingston 13 were flooded.

Shortly after the news interview was aired, DJ Powa edited the interview and added music to her vocals for two videos; “Call Di Contracta (Tutty Gran’) – DJ Powa Refix Video.”  and “Wi Waan Know How (Contracta Pt. 2)” – DJ Powa Refix Video” which both went viral.

When World Music Views reached out to DJ Powa on Monday, he said he was not contacted for BIA’s song which is licensed by Sony Music Entertainment for Epic Records on streaming platforms. Powa also said while he likes the song, he doesn’t know if Rosie’s cry for justice was fitting BIA’s subject. “The song itself is good. I Like it. But trying to see what the sample and the song has in common,” he commented to WMV.

“I don’t think they cleared it, and chances are they’d have to go to Rosie,” he continued.

Efforts to contact Bailey, who is a mother of nine were unsuccessful. However, when Bailey became popular 10 years ago, she made several media appearances and even performed on Reggae Sumfest. She also released a single titled “Tutty Gran Wine” with QQ.

“Really Her” is BIA’s third EP and she also samples Red Rat‘s “Tight Up Skirt” for the song “Oh No” which comes right after “Four Seasons.” A week ago the Italian-American acknowledged that Red Rat had cleared the sample for “Oh No,” but made no mention of Rosie or anyone connected to the original audiovisual television interview.

Person are already marking the track as a favorite with one person saying, “One of my favorite songs on the album. Bia is such an underrated artis.”

Anther commented, “Bia went Yardie on this….🇯🇲🇯🇲🇯🇲😍😍.”

BIA has surpassed 1.5 million streams on Spotify across all credits.
