Brooklyn is set to become a stage for Caribbean culture this Labor Day weekend as Anything Goes Live: Flag Fete arrives at Polygon BK on Friday, August 29. The annual celebration of music and heritage has become a fixture of the summer season, drawing revelers from across the diaspora to gather beneath one roof — and one rhythm.
A Trio of Hosts From Jamaica
This year’s edition will be anchored by three prominent voices from Jamaica’s music scene. IWaata, the gritty Trap-Hall deejay behind anthems like Clip Tall and Elevate, will bring raw street energy. He will be joined by Ding Dong, the dancehall party-starter and leader of the Ravers Clavers movement, whose name has become synonymous with dance-floor commands. Completing the lineup is DJ Mac, a Gen-Z producer responsible for some of the island’s most infectious recent riddims.
Together, the trio is expected to deliver the kind of exuberant performances that turn a fete into a frenzy.
The Selectors Behind the Vibes
The music, of course, is as central as the hosts. A heavyweight lineup of selectors — DJ Norie, DJ Shao, DJ Spider, Mr. Crump, Afrique Sound, and DJ Dredy — will supply a steady rotation of dancehall, soca, hip-hop, and afrobeats. Their task is simple but essential: keep the flags waving and the dance floor in motion until morning.
A Sea of Flags
Flag Fetes are now a staple of Caribbean nightlife, and few places outside the region itself can rival Brooklyn’s intensity. The borough, home to one of the largest Caribbean diaspora communities in the world, transforms these gatherings into vibrant pageants of national pride. On Friday, patrons are expected to arrive draped in the colors of Jamaica, Trinidad, Grenada, Guyana, St. Lucia, and beyond.
