“The Boy Is Mine” remix by Ariana Grande with legendary R&B singers Brandy and Monica, has entered the top 10 on the U.S. iTunes chart, 26 years after the original hit was released in 1998.
Grande announced the remix earlier this week on social media, expressing her gratitude to Brandy and Monica, thanking them for their generosity, kindness, and inspiration.
“It is near impossible to say how much this means to me,” Grande added. “This is in celebration of you both and the impact that you have had on every vocalist, vocal producer, musician, and artist creating today.”
Following the remix’s release on Friday (June 21), Brandy shared a link to the song on X, writing, “Love you Ariana. Thank you for embracing us with so much warmth and kindness. Overjoyed to celebrate this moment with you and @MonicaDenise.”
Monica reveals her relationship with Brandy has “fully healed” after working with Ariana Grande on “the boy is mine”: “We recognized that the key was to keep other people out of our relationship, both business and personal…It’s changed the trajectory of it in its totality. My son was in the hospital the other day and she was who I was speaking to while he was there, so I think that is what Ariana has done that she may not even realize.”
The original 1998 track spent 13 weeks at Number One on the Billboard Hot 100. Brandy and Monica also made appearances in Grande’s music video for the reimagined track, which features Penn Badgley and a sleek, Catwoman-like Grande.
Grande’s seventh album, “Eternal Sunshine,” was released on March 8, 2024 peaked at No. 1 in over 100 countries on Apple Music.
The album, released under Republic Records, blends R&B and pop with dance influences, featuring production by Grande, Max Martin, Ilya Salmanzadeh, Oscar Görres, and others.
The lead single, “Yes, And?”, debuted at number one on the Billboard Hot 100 and the second single, “We Can’t Be Friends (Wait for Your Love),” was released alongside the album.
The album title draws inspiration from the 2004 film “Eternal Sunshine of the Spotless Mind,” with Grande aiming to balance vulnerability with entertainment. Grande collaborated with producer Max Martin on eleven tracks.
