Nestled in a clamshell presentation case, this Assouline publication commemorates the immersive The Book of HOV: A Tribute exhibit held at the Brooklyn Public Library from July to December 2023, which drew over 600,000 visitors, making it one of the largest public installations in U.S. history.
Rendered in the custom “JAY-Z blue,” the book features thousands of archived objects from every aspect of JAY-Z’s professional life. Available in two sizes on Assouline.com and at Assouline boutiques ahead of its December 4 release.
The book showcases thousands of archival objects from JAY-Z’s professional life, including original recording masters, stage wear, awards, unseen photographs, and significant artifacts like the guitar he played at Glastonbury and his Rock & Roll Hall of Fame award. Divided into eight chapters inspired by his lyrics, the book delves into his artistry, entrepreneurship, and activism, contextualized with in-depth essays and nearly 700 images.
Highlighting JAY-Z’s impact on culture and his ability to redefine boundaries, this collector’s edition includes complimentary white gloves and a signature canvas tote bag, making it a fitting tribute to a true cultural icon.
Last year, the Brooklyn Public Library’s Central Library unveiled a surprise exhibition, The Book of Hov, celebrating Jay-Z’s legacy on July 14. Sponsored by Roc Nation, the exhibit spanned the library’s expansive space and features original recordings, stage outfits, awards, and a recreation of Baseline Studios, where Jay-Z recorded iconic albums. Visitors were able to interact with vinyl listening stations, explore Jay-Z’s philanthropic ventures, and view artifacts like Armand de Brignac champagne bottles and rare photographs.
The event attracted stars, including Beyoncé and Lil Uzi Vert who shared highlights online. The library also launched 13 limited-edition library cards, each featuring one of Jay-Z’s album covers. Roc Nation fully funded the installation and made donations to the library. Coinciding with the exhibit, Jay-Z earned an Emmy nomination for Rihanna’s Super Bowl halftime performance. The library’s façade displayed his lyrics, and a private opening party was held for the exhibit, which is expected to remain open through fall.
Jay-Z will turn 55 on December 4 this year.
