Mad Cobra Appears In South Carolina Court, Bond Set At $125,000

A day after his arrest Dancehall DJ Mad Cobra, real name Ewart Everton Brown appeared in a Florence County South Carolina court on Wednesday where his bail was set for $125,000.

Florence County Detention Center – Inmate Details show that for the Flex singer’s weapons charge has a surety bond of $5000, while for the higher charge of drug trafficking, bond is set for $120,000.

Cobra was arrested on Tuesday in South Carolina U.S.A. According to initial reports by WMVBF NEWS. He was stopped on Interstate 95 by Florence County Sheriff where they found two kilograms of cocaine and a pistol. No other accomplice was mentioned in the case. Up to news time Cobra was still detained as his bail is not yet paid, but Sheriff Department says only 10% of the full bail amount is required if the 90s DJ chooses to use a bail bondsman service.

The former Columbia Records star dropped six albums between 1991 and 1992, and found his way on to the Billboard 200 albums chart with 1992’s “Hard To Wet, Easy to Dry.,” That album owes its success to the hit single Flex which he co-wrote with Brian Gold.

July 30 last year, marked 30 years since Flex was released as the lead single from the album. It is his only Billboard Hot 100 song which peaked at No. 13 on January 9, 1993.

Hard To Wet, Easy to Dry” peaked at #125 on the Billboard 200 albums chart and #17 on the Billboard R&B chart in 1992.

Flex laid the blueprint for dancehall artists to find the balance between being hardcore lyrics in love songs. Dexta Daps, Kranium, Konshens, Gyptian, Sean Paul and Shaggy followed the blueprint that Cobra and Flex pioneered and sensitized US audiences to accept the Jamaican“Hardcore dancehall Lova.”

His other popular “Press Trigger” has been the soundtrack for several movies.
