The reggaeton hit “Mamiii,” by Mexican-American singer Becky G and Columbian singer Karol G, has officially surpassed 1 billion streams on Spotify.
It is the second all female latin collaboration to do so marking Karol G’s sixth song to reach the milestone and Becky G’s first.
Released on February 11, 2022, through Kemosabe and RCA Records, the track was the third single from Becky G’s second Spanish-language studio album Esquemas.
Produced by Ovy on the Drums, a key figure in the Latin music industry, and written by a team of talented songwriters, including Becky G (Rebbeca Marie Gomez), Karol G (Carolina Giraldo Navarro), Elena Rose, and Daniel Echavarría Oviedo. It is the second collaboration between Becky G and Karol G, following their work on “Mi Mala (Remix)” in 2018.
“Mamiii” topped multiple charts around the world reaching No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart and peaked at No. 15 on the Billboard Hot 100. It also secured No. 4 on the Billboard Global 200.
Beyond the U.S., “Mamiii” conquered the charts in 18 Latin American countries, reaching No. 1 in Bolivia, Chile, Colombia, Ecuador, Mexico, and more. Its success was further amplified in Europe, charting in Spain and Portugal.
Music Video and Cultural Influence
The official music video for “Mamiii,” directed by Mike Ho, was released on April 15, 2022 and has surpassed 80 million views on YouTube. Although Becky G and Karol G do not appear in the video, the star-studded production features actors Angus Cloud and Mia Khalifa. The video was initially set to have a different concept, but creative differences led to its eventual revision.
Both Becky G and Karol G performed it live for the first time during Coachella 2022, and Karol added it to the Bichota Tour and the Mañana Será Bonito Tour setlist.
The song is certified United States: 23× Platinum (Latin), with over 1.38 million units sold (RIAA), Diamond in Mexico ( 770,000 units), 7× Platinum in Spain, with 420,000 units and Platinum in Brazil for 40,000 units sold. In France Mamii is certified Gold for 100,000 units, Italy and Portugal it reached Gold status for 50,000 and 5,000 units respectively.
