Beenie Man’s Grammy Winning Album “Art And Life” Needs 23,000 Units To be Eligible For Gold Certification In The U.S.

Beenie Man’s 12th studio album Art and Life released by Virgin Records on July 11, 2000 has surpassed sales units of 477,000 in the U.S. including 400,000 pure copies and 96.2 million on-demand streams. The album which won Best Reggae album at the 43rd annual Grammy Awards needs to sell an additional 23,000 units to be qualified for Gold album certification in the U.S. by the Recording Industry Association Of America. It will the Doctor’s first Gold album certification.

Art and Life bested the other nominees for the Best Reggae Album Grammy Award including Pato Banton’s – Life Is a Miracle, Dennis Brown’s- Let Me Be the One, Gregory Isaacs’ – Private & Confidential and The Wailing Souls – Equality. It was driven by a slew of reggae fusion tracks including the Rock Wilder produced Love Me Now featuring Wyclef and Red Man on the Remix version.

A&L charted for 84 on the Billboard 200 Albums Chart and and 20 weeks on the Reggae Albums Chart, No. 68 and No. 1 respectively. It also peaked at No. 18 on the R&B Hip Hop albums chart.

The 17 track set has productions from Dave Kelly, Salaam Remi, a young Neptunes group cohosting of Chad Hugo and Pharrell, Louis “Flabba” Malcolm, Steelie and Clevie ,King Jammy and the Shocking Vibes Crew.

Last December Global dancehall superstar Sean Paul has made RIAA history as his Grammy winning sophomore album “Dutty Rock” is certified triple Platinum by the US music certification body.

The album released in 2022 becomes the first full dancehall project to reach that milestone. Dutty Rock has a line up of all Billboard top 15 dancehall tracks including “Like Glue”, “Get Busy”, “I’m Still In Love With You” and the BET 106 & Park countdown smash hit “Gimmi The Light.”

The album peaked at No. 1 on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart and is also the first album by a Jamaican released this century to be certified triple platinum. The last Jamaican with an album released this century to sell multi-Platinum in the U.S. is two time Grammy winner Shaggy, whose Hot Shot was released on August 8, 2000. The album was certified triple Platinum on January 30, 2001. The Geffen Records release went on to be certified 6x Multi-Platinum on June 5, 2001 by the RIAA. It has so far sold 8.8 million units in the U.S. as of March 2023.
