Beyoncé’s “Texas Hold ‘Em” is now certified Gold in Canada for selling 40,000 units and across the Atlantic the song is certified Silver in the U.K. for selling 200,000 units. Both certifications were issued by Music Canada and the British Phonographic Industry respectively on March 8, 2024.
The 42 year old Texas born singer now has 36 Gold certifications in Canada and 39 Silver Certifications in the U.K. across all credits.
The surprise single released during the Super Bowl LVIII on February 11, is from her upcoming eighth studio album, tentatively titled Act II. The song blends country pop, western, and soul elements and received praise for its playful tone and celebration of Black roots in country music. “Texas Hold ‘Em” marked historical achievements, including Beyoncé’s thirteenth number-one song on the Billboard Hot 100 and her first number-one country song, making her the first Black woman to achieve this feat.
The song has also topped the charts in Canada, New Zealand, Ireland, Netherlands, and three weeks at the top in the U.K.
“Texas Hold ‘Em” ties “Crazy In Love” and “Beautiful Liar” as Beyoncé’s longest-running #1 single in the UK.
Over in Canada, fans have drawn comparisons between Beyoncé’s country hit “Texas Hold ‘Em” and the theme song for the Canadian cartoon show Franklin, sparking discussions on social media. Composer Bruce Cockburn, known for the ‘Franklin’ theme, acknowledges similarities but asserts that “Texas Hold ‘Em” is entirely Beyoncé’s creation. He states, “The rhythmic feel is similar…but to my ears that’s where the similarity stops.” The comparison arose as fans noticed resemblances in the songs’ rhythms and melodies, prompting viral TikTok videos.
