Beyoncé’s “Energy,” featuring BEAM, Has Sold Over 1,000,000 Units In The US

Beyoncé’s track “Energy,” featuring BEAM, has sold over 1,000,000 units in the US according to the widely respected industry platform Chart Data. The song with with the Jamaican influence and a sample controversy involving Kelis is now eligible for Platinum certification in the US by the Recording Industry Association Of America.

BEAM’s vocals, along with a sample of Kelis’s “Milkshake,” sparked conflict as with singer Kelis who claimed Beyoncé used her song without permission. Kelis demanded recognition and compensation, prompting Beyoncé to remove the interpolation.

“Energy” also samples New Orleans native and gay pride champion Big Freedia’s “Explode.” The song was produced by Skrillex, Al Cres, BEAM, and Beyoncé.

This will be BEAM’s first US Platinum certification after the song became his highest chart milestone after Energy peaked No. 27 on the US Billboard Hot 100, #13 on the Billboard streaming chart, and No. 12 on the Hot R&B/Hip Hop Songs chart.

The song which is track #5 from Beyoncé’s seventh studio album Renaissance (Parkwood/Columbia), was released on July 29, 2022. It was previously certified Gold in Canada by Music Canada on Monday August 21, 2023.

Surpassing 160 million streams on Spotify, Energy is BEAM’s highest streaming song and Beyoncé’s 37th.

Born Tyshane Thompson, BEAM who is the son of dancehall legend turned gospel singer Papa San has surpassed 600 million streams on Spotify across his catalog with his Major Lazer feature Rave De Favela coming is second with just over 100 million streams.

Papa San said in an interview that BEAM started producing at age ten. His recognition by pop stars started after he contributed Andy Mineo’s tracks “Young” and “Michael Jackson” in 2011, featured on the mixtape Formerly Known.

His latest collaboration was co-writing Burn from ¥$ Yeand Ty Dolla Sign’s Billboard #1 album Vultures 1.
