Beyoncé’s 2011 single Run the World (Girls) has been certified double platinum by the BPI as of 19 September 2025, reflecting more than 1.2 million units in UK sales and streams according to the British Phonographic Industry. The track, originally released as the lead single from her fourth studio album 4, is built on the militaristic beat of Major Lazer’s Pon de Floor—a production that prominently features dancehall artist Vybz Kartel.
The record was conceived as an assertive anthem of female empowerment, in line with earlier singles such as Independent Women and Single Ladies. Musically it blends electropop and R&B with African-influenced percussion.
Commercially, the single registered mixed results at the time of release. In the US it peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard Hot 100 but reached No. 1 on the Dance Club Songs chart. In the UK it reached No. 11 on the Singles Chart and No. 5 on the R&B chart. Elsewhere it charted strongly in continental Europe, reaching the Top 5 in Belgium and France, Top 10 in Australia, Ireland and New Zealand, and No. 6 in Japan.
Over time, the record has accumulated significant sales and certifications. It is now 5× Platinum in the US (5m units), 5× Platinum in Australia (350,000), 3× Platinum in Canada (240,000), 2× Platinum in New Zealand (60,000), and Diamond in Brazil (250,000). Other notable certifications include Gold in Germany, Italy, Spain, Portugal and Denmark, and Platinum in Sweden. In the UK it was previously Platinum (600,000 units), with the new certification elevating it to double platinum.
