Billboard Hot 100 Chart: “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” By YG Marley Moves Up To No. 60

YG Marley is giving reggae a new leash as his breakout single “Praise Jah In The Moonlight” moves up to No. 60 on the Billboard Hot 100 after debuting at No. 74 last week.

The song marks the first reggae entry on the chart since Bam by Jay-Z and YG’s uncle Damian Marley in 2017.

“Praise Jah In The Moonlight” also moves up to No. 21 on the Canadian Hot 100 chart after landing at 33 last week. It spends a second week at No. 1 on the New Zealand Songs chart. It is the highest charting independent reggae song of all time.

Tracy Chapman’s 1988 recording, “Fast Car,” re-enters the Hot 100, claiming the Number 42 spot this week. The sales and streams resurgence follows Chapman’s captivating performance of the song alongside Luke Combs at the recent 66th Annual Grammy Awards. “Fast Car” has not graced the Hot 100 chart for over 35 years, last appearing during the week of October 22, 1988.

The song sold 35,000 units last week alone, marking an astounding increase of over 8,000 percent compared to the previous week. Additionally, streams of the song soared, exceeding 6 million last week (153%), more than double the previous week’s figures. The day after the Grammys, streams of the song more than tripled, as reported by Rolling Stone.

Chapman’s rendition of “Fast Car” regained prominence after Luke Combs released his cover version last April, which topped the country chart, making Chapman the first Black woman to achieve a Number One country song as its sole writer. Following his collaboration with Chapman, Combs’ version climbed back up to Number 8 on the chart, according to Billboard’s report on Monday.

Returning to the top of the Billboard Hot 100 this week is Jack Harlow’s “Loving On Me,” which was released on November 10, 2023, through Generation Now and Atlantic Records.

The track, which marks the beginning of a “new era” for Harlow, debuted at number two on the Billboard Hot 100 and, after a week reaching number one, has spent a total of six non-consecutive weeks at the top spot after 13 weeks on the chart. The song, which samples the 1995 R&B track “Whatever (Bass Soliloquy)” by Cadillac Dale, gained attention after a snippet went viral on TikTok.

It also achieved success internationally, topping charts in countries like Australia, Canada, and the UK. It is certified Gold in the UK for selling 400,000 units.

Meanwhile, on the Billboard Afrobeats chart, “Water” by Tyla spends 18 weeks at No. 1.
