Billboard Top 40 artist Tyla is nominated for Best New Artist at the 2023 BET Soul Train awards. The singer got the news a day after she dropped her location on Tuesday saying she is in Jamaica on X formerly known as Twitter and her fans worldwide cannot contain themselves at the possibility that she is making new music.
The singer who is taking the world by storm with her No. 1 Billboard Afrobeats Chart hit “Water” tweeted “Jamaica” along with two images of her in studio and an undisclosed location on the island. Other nominees in the Best New Artist Category include Ambre, Ayra Starr, Coco Jones, Doechii, Flo, Fridayy and Wanmor.
Ciara is nominated for 3 Soul Train Awards this year : – Certified Soul Award – Best Dance Performance (“Better Thangs” w/ Summer Walker AND “How We Roll” w/ Chris BrownSZA, Usher, and Summer Walker have the most nominations securing an impressive nine nominations each. The forthcoming show will be recorded at a yet-to-be-disclosed location in Los Angeles, as BET promises to “reimagine the traditional award show ceremony into a soulful party in Hollywood” on Sunday, November 26, at 8 p.m. ET/PT on BET and BET Her.
Following closely behind the trio of nominations leaders, 21 Savage boasts eight nominations, while Coco Jones and Victoria Monét share six nods. Burna Boy, Chris Brown, Janelle Monáe, and October London all hold four nominations each.
Burna Boy has been nominated in the categories of Album of the Year, Best R&B/Soul Male Artist, Best Collaboration and The Ashford and Simpson Songwriter’s Award.
SZA’s “SOS,” already a strong contender for a Grammy nomination in the upcoming week, is nominated in the Album of the Year category. Furthermore, SZA stands as the sole artist with two Song of the Year nominations for “Kill Bill” and “Snooze.”
The collaborative effort “Good Good” by Usher, Walker, and 21 Savage is the sole contender for Song of the Year among collaborations. It also vies for Video of the Year, as does “Boy’s a Liar Pt. 2” by PinkPantheress & Ice Spice. Both tracks are anticipated front-runners for the Best Collaboration award.
Legendary figures like Ronald Isley and the Isley Brothers contend for the Certified Soul Award, while Shirley Caesar is in the running for the Best Gospel/Inspirational Award. The Ashford & Simpson Songwriter’s Award, an accolade presented annually since 2009, is named in honor of the iconic songwriting duo that was inducted into the Songwriters Hall of Fame in 2002.
Connie Orlando, EVP of Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy, will oversee the annual show and serve as an executive producer for BET, alongside Jamal Noisette, VP of Specials & Music Programming. Jesse Collins, CEO of Jesse Collins Entertainment, will also serve as an executive producer, with Jesse Collins Entertainment’s Jeannae Rouzan-Clay and Dionne Harmon.
