A Party Anthem That Defined a Generation

Released in 2009 during the group’s blockbuster The E.N.D. era, “I Gotta Feeling” became one of the defining party anthems of its generation.

Produced by David Guetta alongside will.i.am, the song helped bridge the worlds of mainstream pop, hip-hop and electronic dance music, contributing to a major shift in the sound of commercial radio during the late 2000s and early 2010s.

The song spent 14 consecutive weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Hot 100 and became one of the biggest commercial successes of the group’s career.

Its infectious chorus and celebratory message helped make it a staple at nightclubs, weddings, sporting events and festivals around the world.

Inside the Star-Studded Music Video

The official final version of the “I Gotta Feeling” music video premiered on June 2, 2009, through the group’s Dipdive platform before arriving on iTunes on June 15, 2009.

Directed by Mikey Mee of Little Minx, the video captures the excitement of a night out in Los Angeles, beginning with scenes along Hollywood Boulevard before following the group members as they prepare for an evening of partying.

The opening sequences feature will.i.am combing his hair, Fergie applying makeup, Taboo checking his messages on Dipdive and apl.de.ap reading text messages.

As the song progresses, the visuals transition into a lively party filled with dancing, music and celebrity appearances.

The video features cameos from French DJ and producer David Guetta, rapper Kid Cudi, members of indie rock band Gossip, fashion designers Dean and Dan Caten of Dsquared2, and RuPaul’s Drag Race alum Ongina.

The closing sequence features a large sign formed from human-sized letters spelling out “The E.N.D,” referencing the group’s fifth studio album.

Both censored and explicit versions of the music video were released, alongside a live-performance version.

The latest milestone highlights the enduring influence of will.i.am, apl.de.ap, Taboo and Fergie, whose work together produced some of the most recognizable songs of the 2000s.
