The first scenes from the trailer for the Bob Marley biopic “One Love” was released on Thursday (July 6, 2023). The story of Marley has been told over and over but never as a biopic. Set for release in 2024, the film stars British actors Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley with Lashana Lynch as his wife Rita Marley.
According to a release, the film directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green is set to tell the story of Marley and give audiences around the world for the first time and insight “on what it was like to be around the legend, to see his pain his sorrows his joys and his redemption.”
Green said the film is set in 1976 to 1978, a period where Marley and his former Wailers band mates Bunny Wailer and Peter Tosh were at odd.
“Nothing happens before it’s time, and now is the time for the story of our father Bob Marley to be represented in a biopic theatrical release coming in 2024,” says Ziggy Marley.
Taking centerstage in the trailer is the assassination attempt on the life of the reggae superstar at his home in December 1976, putting bullets in Bob, his wife, Rita, and manager, Don Taylor. Marley then went into a self imposed exile on the U.K. before returning to Jamaica for the One Love Peace concert and subsequently release the Exodus album.
The trailer is also scored by the timeless music of Bob Marley and the Wailers including “Exodos” and “Jammin.”
Bob Marley: One Love hits theaters on January 12, 2024, by Tuff Gong and Paramount Pictures.
