The Recording Academy awarded Best Reggae Album to Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By The Film on Sunday February 2 at the Peacock Theatre in Los Angeles.
The Bob Marley: One Love – Music Inspired By the Film album won Best Reggae Album at the 67th Annual Grammy Awards on February 2, 2025, announced by Queen Sheba at the Peacock Theater in Los Angeles.
This marks the third consecutive year that a project linked to Bob Marley has won Best Reggae Album at the Grammy Awards. Julian Marley’s Colors Of Royal claimed the title in 2024, while Kabaka Pyramid’s The Kalling, executive-produced by Damian Marley, took home the award in 2023.
The One Love film, directed by Reinaldo Marcus Green, stars Kingsley Ben-Adir as Bob Marley, Lashana Lynch as Rita Marley, and James Norton as Chris Blackwell.
The Best Reggae Album category saw 75 entries in this year, up from 65 in 2024, and honors projects with at least 75% new reggae recordings including Dancehall, Ska and Soca music.
The album released Feb. 14, 2024 via Tuff Gong/Island Records features 10 interpretations of Marley’s classics by Daniel Caesar, Kacey Musgraves, Wizkid, Leon Bridges, Shenseea, Leon Bridges, Farruko, Jessie Reyes, Mystic Marley, Bloody Civilian, and Skip Marley.
The other contenders in the category for Best Reggae Album this year were: Take It Easy – Collie Buddz, Party With Me – Vybz Kartel, Never Gets Late Here – Shenseea and Evolution by The Wailers.
Shenseea who is featured on the cover of “No Woman No Cry” received her first-ever Grammy nomination for Best Reggae Album. She appears on The Color Purple (Music From And Inspired By) soundtrack, nominated for Best Compilation Soundtrack for Visual Media, featuring Fantasia and Missy Elliott on the track Hell No! (Reprise) – Missy Elliott Remix, which samples Steely & Clevie’s iconic “No, No, No” instrumental.
The inter scope Records artist attended the Grammys Premiere ceremony wearing archival Georges Chakra FW 04-05.
Meanwhile VYBZ KARTEL who scored his first nomination became a big hit among attendees at the Grammys this year including top streamer Kai Cenat who was elated to meet the World Boss on the Red Carpet.
