Legendary Reggae icon Bob Marley & The Wailers have claimed the top spot on the Billboard Year-End Reggae Albums Artists chart and the Year-End Reggae Albums chart with their greatest hits collection Legend: The Best Of Bob Marley & The Wailers—for the fifth consecutive year.
Tuff Gong, the family label Marley founded in 1970, continues its reign at No. 1 on the Year-End Reggae Albums Imprints chart. Universal Music, which owns, markets and distributes his music, has also secured No. 1 positions on the Year-End Reggae Albums Labels chart and the Year-End Reggae Distributors chart.
Legend, was recently certified 18x Platinum in the U.S. for sales and streams exceeding 18 million units, extending its lead as the highest selling reggae album of all time. First released on May 8, 1984, this year the album climbs to No. 51 (up from No. 59 last year) on the Year-End Billboard 200 Albums chart, which ranks albums across all genres. Largely due to boosts in streams following the release of the Bob Marley: One Love film in February.
Legend remains Marley’s highest-charting album in the US, peaking at No. 5 on the Billboard 200. With over 4.2 million copies sold in the UK, and an estimated 33 million copies sold globally. As of December 13, 2024, Legend has spent 256 weeks on the Billboard Reggae Albums Chart. It has the second-longest run in U.K. and US Billboard 200 chart history. Second only to Pink Floyd’s Dark Side Of The Moon.
Of note Independents ranked No. 2 on the Billboard Year-End Distributors Chart while Universal ranks No. 1.
Released today (December 13), the Billboard Year-End 2024 music charts recap metrics aggregated from October 28, 2023, through October 19, 2024. These rankings are based on streaming equivalent album units, airplay, and sales in the United States, as reported by sales tracker Luminate (formerly MRC Data). Rankings for Luminate-based recaps reflect equivalent album units, airplay, sales or streaming during the weeks that the titles appeared on a respective chart during the tracking year. Any activity registered before or after a title’s chart run isn’t considered in these rankings.
