Bounty Killer has announced that he withdrawing from his scheduled performance at this year’s Reggae Sumfest and has cancelled the planned tribute.  The announcement comes 3 days after the 5 Star General performed at Sashi at Plantation Cove St. Ann.

The Warlord shared the news on his Instagram page on Tuesday, expressing regret over the unforeseen events leading to his decision.

“Unfortunately, due to circumstances beyond my control, there won’t be a Bounty Killer tribute this year at Sumfest, and I won’t be appearing either. Salute to all the fans, alliance, and allegiances. Thank you,” the Coppershot artist stated, accompanying a video of a past Reggae Sumfest performance.

Earlier this year Bounty Killer had invited fans to suggest artists for his Reggae Sumfest 2024 tribute, excluding Vybz Kartel and Mavado due to unavoidable circumstances. It has been the practice of Reggae Sumfest in recent years to honor an artist that’s made significant continuations to the genre. Recent honorees include tributes for Dave Kelly and King Jammy. Under the Instagram post request by Bounty,  fans had recommended Busy Signal and Wayne Marshall.

Reggae Sumfest is yet to respond to Bounty Killer’s cancellation but the launch for the 31st staging of the festival will take place on Thursday in Montego Bay where several announcements are expected.

This year Reggae Sumfest will be held over 7 days with 8 events in partnership with the Jamaica Rum Festival headlined by Beenie Man, Babyface, Beres Hammond, YG Marley, Teejay, Luciano, Dexta Daps, Aidonia and Jada Kingdom between July 14 to 20. There will be a Family Funday, energetic Street Dance, glamorous All White Party, intense Global Sound Clash, and the all-new Reggae Sumfest Blitz experience with Appleton Estate Rum Festival according to a release by the company.
