American singer songwriter Britney Spears is apparently still dealing with the effects of an abusive conservatorship agreement with her father that was ordered suspended by the Court last month.
Yesterday, the 39-year-old took to Instagram to express that her relatives have caused her immense pain.
“I found my mini typewriter!!! Don’t you find it weird when you jump through hoops to organize trips or set up lunch dates with people you love only to know they’ll bail on you or leave after 10 minutes??? It’s humiliating and it’s like every person I’ve ever opened to immediately says they’ll be gone on a trip for two weeks after…OK I get it…they’re only available to me when it’s convenient for them. Well I’m no longer available to any of them now… I don’t mind being alone…and actually, I’m tired of being this understanding Mother Theresa. If you’re rude to me, then I’m done…peace out. This message is to my family…for hurting me deeper than you’ll ever know. I know the conservatorship is about to be over but I still want justice!!! I’m only 5’4” and I’ve played the bigger person my entire life. Do you know how hard that is???…,” she posted yesterday.
Since 2008, different aspects of Spears’ life have been monitored by her father Jamie after she was deemed mentally unfit. Matters relating to her personal, economic and legal decision-making power were ceded to him.
However, in June , Britney reported conservatorship abuse to law enforcement in Ventura County, California— a day before she and her team were slated to appear before the court to discuss the terms of her conservatorship agreement.
It is reported that for the first time in the last 13 years, she was candid about the conditions she has suffered while being under the supervision of her father.
“Ma’am, my dad, and anyone involved in this conservatorship, and my management, who played a huge role in punishing me when I said no—Ma’am, they should be in jail,” she told Judge Brenda Penny during the court hearing on June 23.
“…It concerns me that I’ve been told I’m not allowed to expose the people who did this to me,” she added.
it, “reflects a toxic environment.”Finally, on September 30, Judge Penny suspended the agreement noting that
The matter returns to court on November 12, where it is expected that the agreement will be terminated.
Meanwhile Netflix released a documentary Britney vs Spears last month directed by Erin Lee, which investigates Spear’s life in conservatorship. The documentary does not feature Britney, but she’s heard in the trailer saying, “I’ve worked my whole life. I don’t owe these people anything.”
Since the release, feathers in the entertainment business have been ruffled with comments coming from Britney’s fiance Sam Asghari and Lady Gaga’s manager Bobby Campbell who have both called the Netflix production ‘exploitative’.
According to Glamour, Ashari wrote in an Instagram comment on Netflix’s page under the trailer: “I hope the profit from these docs go towards fighting against injustice #freebritney.”
Asghari then co-signed a comment left by Campbell who said, “How much money is being made by third parties from this documentary leveraging Britney’s personal story and its value in the media?”“Even if it is in support of freeing Britney, this appears that it could be exploitative,” he concluded.
