Buju Banton and AG Touring have donated US$200,000 to the Accompong Maroons in Jamaica.

The donation was made at Buju’s The Overcomer Tour at the Capital One Arena in Washington, D.C. on Tuesday August 27, 2024.

As Banton concluded his over two-hour set, he introduced a group of Maroons to the stage to perform a ritual, which included the blowing of white rum and blessing the space. Banton was also ceremonially blessed in front of the 15,000 people in attendance.

The group which travelled from Jamaica on Tuesday, performed traditional dances with accompanying drums and accepted the ceremonial check valued at US$200,000, which came from proceeds of the tour.

Buju’s next dates on the tour will be September 8 at the State Farm Arena in Atlanta the November 17 in Brooklyn New York at the Barclay’s Arena.

Following the announcement of cancellations for several dates on Buju Banton’s Overcomer Tour, fans have taken to Instagram to express their disappointment and seek clarification. Among he comments on the Champion deejay’s page were disappointment and emotions with one person saying, “I don’t even want the refund I just wanted to take my mom to see her favorite artist💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔💔”

Another expressing concern over his well-being, “He canceled all over we brought tickets now what hope he is okay.” Other expressed frustration on Monday saying, “I need answers, I’m heartbroken ticketmaster is showing that Friday’s Boston show is canceled. No official email was sent out by Ticketmaster what’s going on?”

An official statement was sent out by Banton on Tuesday saying, “Due to scheduling conflicts beyond my control, I am rescheduling the Boston, Philadelphia, Connecticut, Houston, Dallas, Phoenix, LA and Chicago dates to 2025. I want to ensure I deliver the highest caliber of an experience and my fans are my highest priority. I look forward to sharing the new dates for these cities in the very near future. Thank You to all the reggae lovers across the world for showing up for us all. Peace, love and blessings, Buju Banton.”

Still fans who have not seen the ‘Til Shiloh artist in 13 years are disappointed. “Hartford just got canceled today like wtf is going on I was looking forward to this,” said one Connecticut resident.

One person urged him not to cancel the Washington show saying, “Nuh badda cancel 8/27 now enu,” but that show went successfully earlier last night.

The Gargamel is one of the most in demand reggae artist in the 21st century. He is the first Jamaican artist to do a solo headlining arena tour in the U.S. in the history of reggae music.

The Overcomer Tour is organized by AG Touring, a direct competitor to the Liberty Global owned Live Nation.

Another tour by AG to see cancellations was hip hop star Sexy Redd.
