Buju Banton Makes History with Sold-Out Barclays Center Show

Buju Banton made history as the first solo reggae artist to sell out the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. On Sunday, November 17, he headlined the 19,000-capacity venue, delivering a powerful performance for the final stop of his Overcomer tour.

The ‘Til Shiloh singer returned to New York just five months after performing two shows at the UBS Arena on July 13 and 14, both drawing enthusiastic crowds. Ticket prices for the Barclays Center show ranged from US$124 to a record-breaking US$8,400 for luxury suites, making it the highest-priced reggae concert in U.S. history. Long-time collaborator Wayne Wonder joined Buju on stage, thrilling the audience with performances of hits like No Letting Go, Saddest DayJoy Ride and Bonafide Love.

Ras Shiloh performed with Buju for Garnet Silk duet Complaint.

The tour has been a landmark success, featuring stops at 19,000-capacity arenas across the U.S. and Canada. However, six dates were cancelled due to low ticket sales. Buju cited scheduling conflicts and announced plans to reschedule the missed shows for 2025.

Despite these setbacks, the Overcomer tour grossed over US$50 million, with acts like Gramps Morgan, Fat Joe, Remy Ma, and DJ Khaled opening at various stops. In August, Buju and AG Touring donated US$200,000 from tour proceeds to Jamaica’s Accompong Maroons during a Washington, D.C., show, where the Maroons performed traditional dances and rituals on stage.

Buju Banton’s recent streaming stats highlight his international appeal with “Party Girls” ranking #26 on iTunes in Antigua and Barbuda. “African Pride” holds #20 on Deezer in Kenya. His 1997 album Inna Heights is #40 on iTunes in Dominica and on Apple Music, Buju ranks #9 in Gambia and #93 in Anguilla.

Buju will reunite with Beres Hammond for the Intimate concert, set for January 4, 2025, at Plantation Cove in St. Ann, Jamaica, continuing his legacy of delivering unforgettable performances.
