Buju Banton Meets With Belize City Gang Members

Reggae icon Buju Banton was specially invited to Belize by former Bad Boy rapper turned politician Moses “Shyne” Barrow.

Syne made a post on Instagram announcing the arrival of Banton as his guest in the Caricom nation Tuesday (April 12).

“It is such a pleasure to receive a personal visit in BELIZE from my brother @bujubanton 🙏🏽,” the caption read under a photo of both men smiling in front of Banton’s private jet.

Banton, there to edited Shyne as the next Prime Minister Of Belize made it clear that it is normal to support someone of like mind for official office, “Well, you see, my father King Selassie I was the greatest statesman you know and if we sit on the side-line and let people who all left on us mentally continue doing what they are doing in our region, what world are we going to have for our children.” The Til Shiloh artist positioned.

“So we got to get us off our asses and get active like the brother is doing inside the region, not only in Belize, but everywhere and be the change that we want to see,” he added.

Banton also visited gang leaders in the city of Belize.

With a population of over 64 thousand residents, there has been recent gang flair ups in one of the country’s main cities. The no camera meeting was met with high hopes by Minister of Home Affairs And New Growth Industries, Kareem Musa who said , “I would like to characterize this engagement in serval ways, it is not lost on anybody, the power and influence that somebody like Buju Banton can have especially on the life of our young men from Belize City.”

Banton said his meeting with the gangs was a “coming together” of the disenfranchised youths in the country. He said he is, “trying to understand, seeking to understand what’s going on in their minds, how they see themselves being a change and the change that they want to see, how they see themselves being stakeholders in this Fest country as opposed to, fostering ruination of this great nation.”

However chairman of the UDP, Michael Peyer was less optimistic and said he is not a fan of “these meetings” but hopes Buju can assist in bringing peace to the ongoing war in the nation.
