Fresh off its U.S. RIAA certification Last Last by Burna Boy is now certified Gold in Canada for selling more than 40,000 units in that country. The summer smash hit Last Last is also eligible for Gold certifications in France(100,000), Holland(80,000), Sweden (4 Million Streams), Belgium (20,000), Switzerland (10,000), and New Zealand (15,000). Burna’s African Giant album released July 26, 2019, by Spaceship Entertainment, Bad Habit, Atlantic Records and Warner Music is also certified Gold in Canada for selling more than 400,000 units. It’s his first album certification in North America.
African Giant is his fourth studio album that was heavily influenced by Afrobeats, Afrobeat, dancehall, Afro-pop and hip hop. Production for the album is primarily by Kel-P, along with production from Benjamz, Dre Skull and Skrillex. The album features writing credits and guest appearances from Blak Ryno, Jorja Smith, Jeremih, Damian Marley, Zlatan Ibile, Angelique Kidjo, Serani, M.anifest, YG and Future. The single “On the Low”, won Viewers’ Choice at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, “Killin Dem”, won Song of the Year at the 2020 Soundcity MVP Awards Festival, among other awards.
The Album won Album of the Year at the 2019 All Africa Music Awards and was nominated for Best World Music Album at the 62nd Annual Grammy Awards.
Burna picked up three Canadian Gold certifications in all on September 12. The single Gbona from African Giant album rounds out the latest Gold Canadian certifications. Gbona has surpassed 84 million views on YouTube. In total the Nigerian singer now has 8 music certifications in Canada.
Burna Boy is also nominated for Video Director Of The Year at the BET Hip Hop Awards.
