“Secret” by Burna Boy featuring Jeremih and Jamaican artist Serani has officially been certified Silver in the United Kingdom by the British Phonographic Industry (BPI) as of June 20, 2025. The certification marks over 200,000 units sold in the region, with data tracked by the Official Charts Company.

Originally released as part of Burna Boy’s Grammy-nominated 2019 album African Giant, the seductive mid-tempo track has steadily grown in popularity— gaining new life on streaming platforms and in Burna Boy’s live sets. It was most notably performed at his historic One Night In Space concert at Madison Square Garden in 2022, where fans responded enthusiastically to the song.

In an exclusive 2022 interview with World Music Views, Serani revealed the unexpected origin and behind-the-scenes business decision that gave the track its current form. “It’s the first hit song I’ve had that I didn’t produce the beat for,” said the No Games hitmaker, who helped refine the instrumental initially created by Nigerian producer T-Boy.

Serani said he wrote and recorded the song with full verses, intending to keep it for himself. However, after his manager Julian Jones-Griffiths pitched the track to Burna Boy’s team, they agreed to a deal that involved selling the master so it could be included on African Giant. The track originally had Sean Paul in mind as a collaborator, but Burna Boy opted to take full ownership in order to include it on his album.

The Jamaican singer admitted the decision to sell the master wasn’t easy—but it was strategic. “Sometimes you have to be smart about the game,” he said. “It’s pointless owning 100 percent of nothing. Now I’m more relevant, I’m making more money, and I can think about owning my masters later.”

He added that the success of the song is proof of mutual benefit: “It benefited me to collaborate with Burna, and it benefited him to collaborate with me.”

Meanwhile, with just days to go before Summerjam 2025 kicks off in Cologne, Germany, organizers have confirmed that Burna Boy will once again take the stage this year.

“The African Giant,” Burna Boy made waves at last year’s festival with a crowd-moving performance. Now, he returns to raise the stakes even higher with an expected a high-octane 90-minute set packed with global anthems like “Last Last”, “Ye”, “City Boys”, and “On the Low”.
