Shenseea has landed her second career MTV Video Music Award nomination — this time in the Best Afrobeats category for the Billboard charting hit “Shake It to the Max (Fly) Remix)” with Ghanaian singer Moliy, producer Silent Addy, and fellow Jamaican deejay Skillibeng.

The nod makes her the first Jamaican woman to receive two VMA nominations and if she wins she would join Bounty Killer as the only other Jamaican to win a VMA. Bounty Killer is a two-time VMA winner with No Doubt’s Hey Baby (Best Pop Video, Best Group Video) in 2002.

While Shenseea’s first came in 2022, when she was recognized in the Push Performance of the Year category for her Global PUSH Artist performance of “R U That”featuring 21 Savage, from her debut album Alpha.

Shenseea shared the news and encouraged her fans to help her make history in a live video to her followers:

“I woke up today and I got nominated for my second VMA. Amazing! I actually hope we win because I feel like the culture deserves this, you nuh? Like, first to win a VMA — you guys have to go and vote. I feel like this one is ours.”

If she takes home the trophy, Shenseea will become the first Jamaican woman to win a VMA, sharing the moment with Skillibeng — a milestone for both their careers and for Jamaican music. Shenseea is currently shopping for a new record deal after leaving Interscope last November following the release of her sophomore album.

She joins a short list of Jamaican artists who’ve had VMA noms:

The Shake It to the Max (Fly) Remix) music video was filmed in Portland, Jamaica, with Fernando Hevia directing and editing.

Moliy, her Ghanaian collaborator, is also rallying votes. On X (formerly Twitter), she told fans from her 35 million strong country:

“If you’re Ghanaian, following me and not voting every day for Shake It to the Max Remix for Best Afrobeats at the VMAs, you a op.”

The MTV Video Music Awards (VMAs) is an annual awards show created by MTV to honor the best in the music video medium. It was first held on September 14, 1984, at Radio City Music Hall in New York City.

Often called “music’s most rebellious night,” the VMAs were introduced as an alternative to the Grammys, with a focus on youth culture, stand out performances, and visual creativity. The trophy awarded is the iconic “Moon Person” (formerly “Moonman”), modeled after MTV’s original astronaut logo.

Over the years, the VMAs have become famous not just for recognizing top music videos, but also for unforgettable pop culture moments — from Madonna’s Like a Virgin performance to Beyoncé’s pregnancy reveal and Kanye West’s infamous interruption of Taylor Swift.
