Dancehall DJ Skeng has one more reason to be jubilant after his airport “disorderly” case was dismissed in a corporate area court on Thursday (March 9, 2023). Speaking exclusively to WMV, Attorney Christopher Townsend, who resented the “Likkle Miss” DJ in the matter said, the warrant that was reportedly out for Skeng was an error on the part of the court’s staff.
“They had it said that a warrant was out for him and he was a no-show but on the last occasion the judge had made an order for the case to go to Case Management Court, and that happens at 2:00 in the afternoon, the Clark of The Court put it back in the morning without telling us and therefore the judge issued a warrant,” Townsend told WMV late Thursday.
Skeng who was in Los Angeles with Nicki Minaj last week as she announced a slew of new acts signed to her new label was present at court this afternoon.
“When we got there the judge was still there and the judge vacated the order for the warrant and then I went before the case management judge, where I made an application; to set the matter for another date would offend justice and offend his (Skeng’s) constitutional right and it would be an abuse of process for the prosecution to be allowed one more adjournment after we had been here for near a year,” to which he said the judge agreed.
Skeng had no previous run ins with the law and Townsend made it clear to WMV that this matter would not attract a finger print.
The Protocol DJ who is poised for an international career he said “was in the midst of a misdemeanor,” Townsend said.
As for a reaction to the verdict, he said,
“Skeng was elated and happy that the matter went the way it did and the other co-accused persons demonstrated their happiness.”
The top streaming Jamaican artist Skeng was arrested along with two members of his entourage Cara Wilson and Shaquille Kelly the Norman Manley International airport in Kingston, Jamaica last May, while they were on their way to a show in the Trinidad.
“Head of communications at the Jamaica Constabulary Force, Dennis Brooks confirmed the arrest and charge with World Music Views said at the time,
“We can confirm that 21 year old recording artist Kevaun Douglas o/c “Skeng” was removed from a flight at the Norman Manley International Airport at about 1:50 pm this afternoon. Our information is that this happened after he started behaving disorderly during an argument.“
He said Skeng was charged for Disorderly Behavior and Resisting Arrest. He was offered bail and appeared before the court for the first time on June 21, 2022.
