Speaking exclusively with World Music Views at the launch of his short film and music video for Slow Motion featuring Bounty Killer and Dexta Daps, Cham formerly Baby Cham revealed that he is now under new management.
“Tonight we launching the movie, Slow Motion, it’s a mini movie staring myself, Dexta Daps, Bounty Killer, Jada Kingdom, Lava. So much of us in it,” the Wow singer said of the occasion.
As the youthful looking Cham aims for another round of success from the International music industry he remains faithful to his Madhouse team lead by legendary producer Dave Kelly but the addition he says is more help.
“You know she the management is always there, still Madhouse, but you have Monique Blake on board and the whole team and we just doing what we need to do,” he said.
“Monique is the boss, Swizz is the boss and you know Alicia a me general from day one,” he concluded.
Blake is the General Manager for Swizz Beatz Productions as well as his business partner.
She also runs her own creative firm, MEA Creative Management. It was some of Monique’s work behind the scenes that saw the streaming brand Versuz which was started by Swizz Beatz and Timbaland becoming a global and influential platform. She struck deals with Apple in the early days and Triller eventually acquired Versuz, a webcast series that took its genesis from the Jamaican clash culture and stage show Sting in January 2021 for an undisclosed sum. “This is a momentous occasion, not only for Versuz and Triller, but the music business as a whole,” Swizz Beatz and Timbaland said in a joint statement at the time.
Monique Blake, a Brooklyn native admits she loves dancehall music and was instrumental in executing acclaimed Versus dancehall moments such as the Bounty Vs Beenie Clash, as well as the October 2021 Triller Verzuz world-class boxing matches with a reggae concert, featuring some of the biggest names in dancehall and reggae at the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.
It was the third event in the TrillerVerz series, the weekend extravaganza had separate tickets for each event starting at $27.50 and fans from across the world were able to watch the events, including the dancehall showcase for a $2.50 monthly subscription to Trillerverzpass.
Starting off the dancehall event was Teejay the Uptop Boss and Kranium who wowed the Brooklyn crowd. Wylcef Jean played toastmaster, DJ and the MC for most of the night. One stand-out moment during his DJ set was when he played a Kenny Rogers Dubplate which set the tone for the real dancehall vibes to come.
Meanwhile at the post screening of Slow Motion at the ROK Hotel, Downtown Kingston Jamaica, Bounty Killer was in an unusually talkative mood as he explained how the song and video came together and why he and his long time musical partner Cham chose to include Dexta Daps on the track.“As we see in the music recently, the ladies have not been attended to, so we decide that we are gonna do a song to get the men and women to interact. Dancehall is a Rub a dub thing inuh, a rub a dub then it turn dancehall. The the rub a dub come outa the dancehall the the girls them separate and the man Dem separate and we decided we want a song to get the man and women them to gyrate to each other,” said Bounty Killer.
Both Bounty and Cham heaped praises at the remarkable talent of Dexta Daps as they reflect on the making of the song. “We say Dexta is a young act that came and make it his point of duty to attend to the ladies expensively so we decided we want him to hook the lyrics, we send forward the ladies man. You gotta deal with the ladies slow.”
“Cham said, the first time came to me when I heard what Dave had done with the mix was how special Dexta sound. Its like sometimes we are fan of each other, we come up under the same umbrella and the same team,” Cham said before being interrupted by Bounty who said: “The first time me play the song, you know people never know she a Dexta? because him a sing Inna the falsetto and I really realize that him inna one different zone. Then Dexta sing Inna the four chorus different, every time.”
Dexta then chimed in to give accolades to producer Dave Kelly. “A Dave Kelly write the song inuh, mi use want everybody know from now inuh,” he explained.
