Rising Jamaican recording artist Chapta Nyne is proudly carrying the flag for St. Thomas, a parish he describes as the birthplace of some of Jamaica’s most influential musical talents.

Speaking with World Music Views, the versatile entertainer reflected on his roots, his musical journey, and the artists and producers he hopes to work with in the future.

“We’re here from the best part of Jamaica. We’re here from the best parish in Jamaica,” Chapta Nyne said proudly. “We hail from the best parish in Jamaica, St. Thomas.”

The artist was quick to highlight the rich musical legacy of the eastern parish.

“St. Thomas ago have bare bad artists. From Chronic Law, Popcaan, Bushman, Turbulence, name it. Bare bad artists come from outta east. That’s where we hail from.”

Born at Princess Margaret Hospital, Chapta Nyne made sure to show love to the communities that helped shape him.

“Big up the whole of Lyssons, big up the whole of Yallahs, big up the whole of Morant Bay, Albion, Back Bush, Newland,” he said.

While many artists become known for either reggae or dancehall, Chapta Nyne believes his strength lies in comfortably navigating both genres.

“Some artists are good at one type of music. Some artists just fit dancehall. Some artists just fit reggae. Me? I fit both,” he explained.

Drawing comparisons to some of Jamaica’s most respected cultural voices, he added, “Like you would have a Sizzla, a Capleton, an I-Wayne — I fit both. I don’t sound out of place in a dancehall, and I don’t sound out of place in reggae.”

That versatility has become one of the defining characteristics of his growing catalogue and continues to attract listeners from different corners of the Jamaican music landscape.

When asked about dream collaborations, Chapta Nyne revealed that he would also like to collaborate with his parishioners.

“Oh my gosh. Enough artists — Chronic Law, Popcaan, a lot of artists,” he said. “There’s a lot of good artists now. Younger artists too, like Pablo YG.”

However, he stressed that his interest goes beyond popularity.

“I’m not talking about who’s hot. I’m talking about who I really feel like I have a connection with.”

The same approach applies to producers he hopes to work alongside as his career continues to expand.

“Producers too — more work with Steven the Genius, Rushan and them,” he said. “A lot of things are going on in the space where it looks good.”

With deep roots in St. Thomas, a passion for both reggae and dancehall, and an eye on meaningful collaborations rather than trends, Chapta Nyne is positioning himself as one of the artists determined to carry Jamaican music forward while staying true to where he comes from.

For Chapta Nyne, the mission remains simple: represent his parish, create authentic music, and continue building connections with artists and producers who share his vision.
