Chart Preview: “The Gentle Man” By Romain Virgo Makes Wave On Apple Music

Romain Virgo’s fourth studio album “The Gentle Man” is progressing on the charts around the world. The VP Records project released on Friday March 1 has entered the U.S. Reggae iTunes chart at No. 8.

On Apple Music, the 12 track project peaked at #2 in Grenada and Jamaica, #6 Saint Kitts and Nevis, #7 Seychelles, #18 St. Lucia, #21 Belize, #29 Cayman Islands, #31 Dominica, #48 Trinidad and Tobago, #84 Anguilla, #86 Antigua and Barbuda.

While on iTunes it is #1 in Grenada. Tracks from the album “Been There Before”featuring Masicka peaks at on Apple Music at #84 in Grenada, #90 in Jamaica and on YouTube: #6 Jamaica and #32 on Deezer Jamaica.

“Good Woman” is #3 Jamaica and “Red Dress” is on iTunes at #3 Grenada.

The album follows the lover’s rock artist’s last VP Records release “Lovesick” which debuted at No. 1 on the U.S. Billboard Reggae Albums chart in 2018 and stays on similar path navigating themes of self-discovery, masculinity, and the complexities of modern relationships with a blend of classic reggae sounds and contemporary afro-production elements.

Reflecting on the album’s creative process, Virgo shares in a statement with WMV, “I kept some important questions in mind while working on this album. Who am I to my fans? To those close to me? To myself? With this project, I present my full, authentic self. This is who I am.”

Other collaborations with on the album include Nigerian reggae-fusionist Patoranking on the heartfelt tribute to single mothers titled “I Believe,” Virgo demonstrates his versatility and ability to seamlessly merge different musical influences.

Additionally, the album features collaborations with multi-generational Jamaican artists Jesse Royal on “Bridges” and a high energy offering from Capleton on “You Must Pay,” further showcasing Virgo’s commitment to bridging generational divides within the reggae genre.

Behind the scenes, “The Gentle Man” boasts an impressive lineup of producers including Donovan ‘Doncorleon’ Bennett, Phillip ‘Winta’ James, and Oliver ‘Cadenza’ Rodigan, among others. Their collective efforts result in a rich tapestry of sounds that effortlessly blend roots reggae, lover’s rock, Afrobeats, and more, offering listeners a diverse sonic experience.

To support the album’s launch, Virgo is gearing up for an extensive tour schedule, including performances in Jamaica, the United States, the Caribbean, and Europe throughout the coming months. His electrifying stage presence and soulful performances are sure to captivate audiences worldwide, further cementing his status as one of reggae music’s brightest stars.
