Dancehall artist Chronic Law has pleaded not guilty to a federal firearm charge in Georgia, where he has been ordered to remain in custody pending trial.
The 32-year-old entertainer, whose given name is Ackeme Jermane Campbell, entered the plea during an arraignment on Monday. He is accused of being a prohibited person in possession of a firearm.
During the 17-minute hearing, Chronic Law was advised of his rights and the potential penalties he could face if convicted. His request for bail was subsequently denied, with Judge Sheppard ordering that he remain in the custody of the US Marshals pending trial.
Prosecutors argued that no conditions of release would adequately ensure Campbell’s appearance in court or protect the safety of the community. They also told the court they believe he poses a serious flight risk if released on bond.
The court ordered prosecutors and the defence to exchange discovery within 30 days.
The federal case reportedly stems from a November 2025 traffic stop in Georgia. According to the criminal complaint, Campbell was detained after allegedly speeding and attempting to evade police. Federal authorities allege that four firearms were recovered from the vehicle he was driving, including one reportedly stolen in Florida.
Authorities further allege that following a separate arrest in February, Campbell admitted possessing the firearms and said they had been used in music videos. Investigators claim that what appear to be two of the weapons can be seen in separate videos featuring the dancehall artist.
Federal prosecutors also allege that while Campbell holds a visa allowing him to live and work in the United States, his immigration status did not authorise him to possess a firearm without separate permission, which they say he did not have.
If convicted, Chronic Law could face up to 10 years in federal prison, as well as the possibility of deportation.
