Reggae revival artist Chronixx dropped teasers for three new songs on Wednesday, but still no sign of new music. The first he captioned “No night” singing the lyrics “There is no night there, no night in Zion/no night in Zion there is no night there”
The second was captioned “black Marcus” with the chorus, “when you learn to love yourself, Jah love will help you find your way.” He then went into the lyrics, “swan black marcus remember you taught us,” referencing Jamaica’s national hero Marcus Garvey, a revered figure in the Rastafarian community.
The third and final teaser posted by the Chronology singer had an image of him walking in the middle of a train line singing “the hotter the battle the sweeter the victory” titling the post “ANALOG , 432 HZ.”
None of the songs posted have reggae beats, except for the sound of the Congo drum and simple piano keys. The fan treats come a day after Drake released 100 gigs of behind-the-scenes content for free consumption. Audiomack co-founder Brian Zisook speculate that Drake who is signed to Universal Records could not have released the songs for sale while under the deal. He tweeted, “Drake’s UMG agreement likely includes an exclusivity clause—as is the case in nearly all deals—preventing him from releasing music commercially (for sale or stream) without their involvement. The label is probably already working to monetize the self-leaked hard drive songs.
While Chronixx is not signed to a major label like Drake, he has parted ways with his own Soul Circle Music team, a company he co-founded with his two managers, Pierre Bost based in London and Brendon “Daddi Barnz” Sharpe from Kingston, with whom he released his debut album Chronology (2017,) sources confirmed to WMV.
The Likes artist told Rolling Stones in 2021 that, “Soul Circle was set up because I was unsigned…. Chris Blackwell has told me inspirational stories about Island Records’ transition from jazz to reggae to hip hop, but Soul Circle is not like Island Records.”
Although not signed, Chronixx has enjoyed the halo marketing effort of Blackwell’s Blue Mountain Music Publishing which signed him to a 3 year publishing deal with a seven year retention.
Interestingly, Chronixxmusic.com, the site Blue Mountain references as Chronixx’s official website is DUNIABET55, an online gambling platform focused on slot games, with claims of offering high-quality and trustworthy services for players in Indonesia. It emphasizes a casino-like experience with significant winning opportunities, practical play via smartphones, and a variety of engaging slot games from top providers.
Since promising the release of his sophomore project Dela Splash circa 2021, Chronixx has dropped the title track, Safe N Sound and Freedom Fighter.
Since 2011 Chronixx has released 4 projects, his debut Hooked on Chronixx EP (2011), 2012’s Major Lazer Presents: Chronixx & Walshy Fire — Start a Fyah Mixtape, which was his breakout project drawing the attention of Chris Blackwell, then in 2014 he released the The Dread and Terrible EP which saw him performing on Jimmy Fallon.
Chronology, released with distribution via Virgin Records has sold more than 100,000 units in the US according to Luminate.
