World Music Views understands that Claudette Kemp, the manager of Capleton has died. Kemp passed away on Friday June 9, 2023 after an illness.
One of a handful of women music managers on Jamaica, Kemp has been in the business for more than three decades having previously managed Beres Hammond for 11 years before switching to the Fire Man, Capleton.
She is a key player in the organization of Capleton’s annual concert “A St. Mary Me Come From.”
Several women in the music industry are expressing sadness this evening upon hearing the news of her passing , but grateful for the life she lived.
Sharon Burke of Solid agency shared condolences with WMV, “I am deeply saddened that one of the most powerful women in the industry has transitioned. I am however, happy that she will feel no more pain considering she was suffering from an illness.”
“May she rest in music,” Burke added.
Judith Bodley of Burke Bodley group added, “Condolences to Capleton and the David House family , and Claudette’s Kemp’s friends and family, we have certainly lost a warrior for the music.”
Media personality and reggae show host Debbie Bissoon in a statement WMV said,
“Ms. Kemp was one of the kinder souls I’ve met in this industry. To know her was to love her. Her managing one of the most sought after male Reggae artist for over two decades is nothing to take for granted. She will be missed.”
