Cultural Confusion: GOP Rep. Lisa McClain Calls Shaggy’s Song ‘It Wasn’t Me’ an Eminem Track During Secret Service Grilling

Republican Congresswoman Lisa Carmella McClain attributes Shaggy’s “it Wasn’t Me” to Eminem as she quizzed Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle about the attempted assassination of Donald Trump under her watch.

“The Secret Service has a leadership problem, and it falls on you. While I appreciate your hollow words that ‘the buck stops here,’ I was actually hoping for some real answers,” McCain began.

She went to chide Cheadle demanding aswers for the security breach that saw a lone gunman climb a building and take a clear shot at the former president. “Director Cheadle, you must answer to the American people if you want to stay in charge. You want to keep your job, right?” Director Cheadle responded, “Absolutely”

McClain, 58, showing her knowledge of pop culture and politics, mistakenly credited Shaggy’s song to Shady, saying, ‘The best way to keep your job is to answer the questions directly, not play this shell game, and certainly not by singing the Slim Shady song ‘Wasn’t Me,'” McClain stated with absolute confidence.

Slim Shady is the name her fellow Michigan native rapper Eminem uses as his alter ego, however the closest song Eminem has to that titled is “Without Me” from his fourth studio album “The Eminem Show.” The song used by many to avoid blame is reggae deejay Shaggy’s “It Wasn’t Me” featuring Rik Rok.

There are not common factors between either song as one is a a song (Without Me) is mocking several America public figures including former Vice President of the US Dick Chiney, Elvis Presley and even the Federal Communications Commission (FCC).

The one mentioned by Mrs McCain is about a man who got caught cheating on his girl and getting advice from a cheeky friend.

Several persons on twitter picked up on the cultural gaff, with one person tweeting, “Rep. Lisa McClain (R-MI) says Secret Security director Kimberly Cheatle’s refusal to answer questions about July 13 is her singing “the Slim Shady song ‘Wasn’t Me.'” “It Wasn’t Me” is a song by Shaggy, not Eminem.”

Another saying, she is appropriating culture, “Who’s going to tell her it’s NOT the Slim Shady song? Culture appropriation.”

Other saying, “Contrary to what Rep. Lisa McClain just said while questioning Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle, it was Rik Rok and Shaggy (a former Marine) who sang “It Wasn’t Me” not Slim Shady AKA Eminem.”

The misappropriation of culture aside,  US Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle faced a bipartisan grilling from frustrated House lawmakers on Monday regarding the security failures that led to the assassination attempt on Donald Trump.

Cheatle acknowledged the “significant” problems at Trump’s rally in Butler, Pennsylvania, on July 13, where the former president was shot in the ear. She did not downplay the historical and political significance of the event.

Before Trump took the stage, Cheatle stated that the Secret Service had been notified “between two and five times” about a suspicious person in the area.

Despite this, as members of the House Oversight Committee sought new information about the security breakdown and the measures being taken to prevent future incidents, Cheatle repeatedly stonewalled, citing the ongoing FBI investigation.

Throughout the hearing, Cheatle remained defiant against bipartisan calls for her immediate resignation.
