Reggaetón legend Daddy Yankee has filed a legal motion in Puerto Rico, seeking an injunction against his soon-to-be ex-wife Mireddys González and her sister Ayeicha González Castellanos over an alleged unauthorized withdrawal of $80 million from the corporate account of his company, El Cartel Records.
In the court documents obtained by Billboard, the reggaetón superstar (born Ramón Luis Ayala Rodríguez) claims that his estranged wife, who is reportedly the CEO of El Cartel Records, and her sister, who serves as secretary/treasurer, withdrew the significant sum from the company’s bank account on December 12, 2024—after Daddy Yankee had already revoked their authority and warned them not to make any transactions on behalf of the company.
The 16-page legal filing, submitted to a court in San Juan, alleges that González and González Castellanos improperly concentrated power within the company, resulting in negligent and irresponsible management. Yankee claims that their actions have been detrimental to the operations of El Cartel, and that they have failed to provide accurate financial accounts.
One key issue raised in the filing involves the sale of Daddy Yankee’s music catalog to Concord, a transaction that was reportedly conducted by a third-party hired by González without Yankee’s knowledge. Despite having signed the agreement, Daddy Yankee claims he was not provided with all the necessary contract documents and remains unaware of the full scope of the sale, including what was sold and what rights he may still hold over his musical creations.
Yankee’s legal team argues that González and González Castellanos’ actions have violated corporate laws and that their management of the company’s financial matters has been reckless. In addition to seeking the removal of the defendants from their positions within the company, Yankee is demanding the immediate return of the withheld information and documentation regarding the company’s financials.
This legal dispute comes on the heels of Daddy Yankee and Mireddys González’s announcement that they are divorcing after more than 20 years of marriage. In an emotional statement shared on Instagram on December 2, Yankee confirmed that, despite months of attempting to salvage the relationship, his lawyers were responding to the divorce petition filed by González.
As the CEO of El Cartel Records and Daddy Yankee’s former manager, González has long been regarded as a powerful figure in the reggaetón star’s career, with Daddy Yankee himself once stating, “She’s the boss. She has always been the boss.”
