Last year Dancehall legend Shabba Ranks gave his stamp of approval to the rising artist during a meeting captured on Instagram.
Shabba, known for hits like “Mr. Loverman,” met Teejay as the latter signed with Warner Music Group. In the encounter, Shabba emphasized the importance of standing strong in the music industry and encouraged Teejay to follow his own path. Teejay humorously commented on Shabba’s strength and shared the interaction on social media.
”Mi have to wonder what them man ya feed pon the great Shabba one a di dem, yow e man strong ya Fuk affi go start eat up mi interples and mi protein man seh stand up man @theshabbaranks,” Teejay posted.
Shabba’s success story, including two Grammy wins, parallels Teejay’s signing to Warner. However, Shabba also warned about the risks of unfair treatment in the industry, urging artists to value their worth and ownership of their music. He emphasized the significance of owning masters to ensure long-term success and independence. Despite his own struggles with record labels in the past, Shabba remains focused on paving the way for future generations of artists.
