Rising sensation Jahshii is set to make his performance debut at Rebel Salute on Friday January 19 a the Grizzly’s Plantation Cove in St. Ann, Jamaica. The announcement was made by Festival organizer Tony Rebel on Tuesday via an exclusive interview with Debbie Bissoon of Fame Fm. The Grants Pen singer whose single “Born Fighter” was the most streamed song on YouTube in Jamaica last year will join fellow headliners Queen Ifrica, I-Octane, I-Wayne, George Nooks, Grammy Nominated artist Kabaka Pyramid, Ghanian singer Stone Boy as over 60 more artist at the 2 day festival.
The First Nation singer was suppose to make his Sting debut last December at the same venue but he said the business was not handled well.
“Sting is a show weh jus a forward back enuh, and mi woulda love fi deh yah and perform fi di fans dem, as mi deh yah and a seh a whole heap a di fans dem love mi even touch di stage you know wah be a seh. But, unfortunately, di contracted part neva guh right, yuh know but we deh yah a enjoy the show same way,” Jahshii told Jason Williams of Onstage TV.
“From day management seh yuh naw perform a Sting because yuh know, mi jus lef dat to management,” Jahshii stated.
“Just know seh 2023 a new year”, he continued.
Rebel salute is known to have clean performances so although artist may be hardcore in nature at the Festival they are required to put on their best and most consciously clean performance.
Last July Jahshii said he was renewing his artistry and focusing on less violent music. He said among other things he would be appealing to fans who want more substantial music. The young DJ who got fame from an interview with ER producer Anthony Miller has dropped several conscious songs over the past year.
Miggle Day produced by Active Record was released on YouTube with a music video directed by Ruption (Tarrus Riley, Shenseea). Jahshii sits mostly on a concert walk in the gritty neighborhood of Grants Pen Kingston as he spits “Murder, murderer, brand new puppy pon the Burna,” he sings the heinous lyrics melodiously.
He denounced violent lyrics in an interview with Terro Don, even as he has released several violent songs since.
In the interview with Terro Jahshii said,
“Yeah, when yuh sing gun song and dem slack chune deh bro, if a man come tomorrow and a sing it madder, a dem yuh fans dem gone to. But when yuh have song weh touch people heart dawg, a dem heart yuh win and not just dem brain, or dem jump or dem snap or dem follow, yuh nuh bro, yuh win dem heart.”
“Jamaica need dem ting deh. Yuh haffi understand music and entertainment is a feeling and a vibe. Yuh put people inna certain feeling and certain energy, yuh understand bro. Das why yuh haffi know dat dawg and motivate people through music and dem ting deh… Dat is weh me si a spot needed inna Dancehall, caw if me naw do dat, there is nobody who a guh do dat,” he said.
Rebel Salute will have its 29th staging this year. The event’s live broadcast will be hosted by leading reggae music media personality Debbie Bissoon.
