Maintaining his remarkable success in all three categories, Davido’s fourth studio album, “Timeless,” stands as Spotify’s most streamed Afrobeats album of 2023. The Nigerian star’s album debuted at No. 37 on the U.S. Billboard 200 albums chart, with an impressive 17,000 units sold in one week through SEA (Streaming Equivalent Albums) and TEA (Track Equivalent Albums).

“Timeless” is the second highest charting debut of an Afrobeats album in history.

In contrast to his previous album, “A Better Time,” which peaked at No. 170 on the Billboard 200 on November 28, 2020, Davido adopted a more cost-effective approach with “Timeless.” During an interview with Ebro on Hot 97 FM in New York, the RCA Records artist disclosed that he spent $2 million on “A Better Time,” covering not only features but also video production and clearances.“It really took me stepping back with this album, my last album, with the last album I spent so much on nonsense, not only the features, but trying to shoot videos, trying to get sum cleared. My last album I spent $2 million, that’s with everything,” he said.

However, with “Timeless,” he curtailed spending. “and I haven’t spent $300k on this album and I made more already in three days,” he confirmed.

Following Davido’s “Timeless” in the Spotify rankings are the Afrobeats albums: “Work Of Art” by Asake #2, “I Told Them…” by Burna Boy #3, and “Raves and Roses” by Rema #4. Rema’s album recently achieved Gold certification in the U.S. from the Recording Industry Association Of America, signifying 500,000 album equivalent units sold. It becomes the second Afrobeats album to earn Gold certification in the U.S., joining Wizkid’s “Made In Lagos.” Moreover, “Raves and Roses Ultra” attains Gold status in several European countries, including France, Poland, Netherlands, Portugal, and Belgium, while achieving Platinum in Switzerland, Canada, and Brazil.

The remaining albums in the top 10 include Amaarae’s ‘Fountain Baby’ at No. 5, Olamide’s ‘Unruly’ at No. 6, Mohbad with ‘Blessed’ at No. 7, Adekunle Gold with ‘Tequila Ever After’ at No. 8, Joeboy’s ‘Body & Soul’ at No. 9, and ‘Sincerely, Benson’ by Bnxn rounding out the top 10.
