Popular Indian-born American author and alternative medicine advocate, Deepak Chopra is likening Reggae Superstar Bob Marley’s philosophies on money to that of a Yogi. The prominent New Age movement figure in his latest book, “Abundance The Inner Path To Wealth” said,
“I know nothing about reggae music but the great reggae musician Bob Marley spoke like a Yogi when he said ‘some people are so poor’ all they have is money’.”
Those words have been immortalized into memes and sometimes attributed to Patrick Meagher as well as Marley and with the pace on the internet it is hard to tell who the original author was. What Marley in fact did say for sure concerning money comes from video interview where he made it clear.
Interviewer: Are you a rich man?
Marley: When you mean rich what you mean?
Interviewer: you have a lot of possessions? A lot of money in the bank?
Marley: …possessions make you rich? I don’t know that type of richness, my richness is life.
The subject of money and its purpose has always been part of pop culture where artists, designers etc. come to terms with its proper place. Coco Chanel who lived before the reign on Bob Marley made a similar remark when she said “There are people who have money and there are people who are rich“
YouTuber and social media influencer Dan Bilzerian known for his over the top lifestyle also said “Money can buy pleasure: possessions, sex and drugs but not happiness.”
