“Despacito” By Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee Becomes Highest-Selling Latin Single of All Time

Latin Music’s Highest Certified Singles- 141× Latin Platinum Certification by the RIAA

The highest-selling Latin singles of all time in the US include several iconic songs that have achieved extraordinary certification milestones, but none more so than “Despacito” by Luis Fonsi and Daddy Yankee. The song was certified 141× Latin Platinum on August 19, 2024, by the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) for 8.46 million combined sales and streaming units in the U.S.

The Billboard No. 1 hit which has several remixes including one with Justin Bieber is also now certified 7x Platinum in the UK.

The lead single from Fonsi’s 2019 studio album Vida, which helped Fonsi secure a $100 million deal for his entire catalog from HarbourView Private Equity in 2022. In January 2020, “Despacito” remix with Justin Beiber became the highest certified track in RIAA history (13x) surpassing “Baby” by Bieber, “Thinking Out Loud” by Ed Sheeran and “Love the Way You Lie” by Rihanna.

All versions of the song are part of a lawsuit filed by dancehall producer duo Steely and Clevie for copyright infringement on 1800 reggaetón songs. it is also 16x Diamond in Brazil for selling 1.2 million units. On YouTube the music video has surpassed 8.5 billion views.

As American youth makes a shift towards non-english music consumption, among the fastest-growing genres in the U.S. since 2021 is latin according to a Luminate report. Here is a look at the other highest-selling Latin singles in the United States of all time as of August 21, 2024.

2. “Te Boté (Remix)” – Nio García, Casper Mágico, Bad Bunny, Ozuna, Darell & Nicky Jam

  • Certification: 10× Diamante (6 Million)
  • Year of Release: 2018
  • Year of Certification: December 14, 2023

This colossal remix became a global hit and is now the second highest-selling latin single, blending the star power of reggaeton’s biggest names. Its infectious melody and emotive lyrics about heartbreak resonated across borders, propelling it to the top of the charts and achieving an astonishing 10× Diamond certification in the Latin market.

3. “No Me Conoce (Remix)” – Jhayco, Bad Bunny, J Balvin

  • Certification: 9× Latin Diamond (5.4 million)
  • Year of Release: 2019
  • Year of Certification: April 3, 2024

The remix of “No Me Conoce” became a favorite in Latin music clubs and playlists worldwide. The collaboration between Jhayco, Bad Bunny, and J Balvin pushed the song to the next level, ultimately earning a 9× Diamond certification in the Latin category.

Romeo Santos, the king of bachata, delivered one of the genre’s most enduring hits with “Propuesta Indecente.” The track showcases his signature blend of romance and rhythm, becoming a staple in Latin music and earning 65× Platinum certification.

  • Certification: 52× Platino (3.12 million)
  • Year of Release: 2021

Rounding ou the top ten highest-selling Latin singles is this collaboration between Panamanian hitmaker Sech and Darell. The melancholic yet catchy anthem resonated with listeners across the globe, earning 42× Platinum certification.
