Don Omar’s “Danza Kuduro” Featuring Lucenzo Surpasses 2 Billion Streams on Spotify

Don Omar’s smash hit “Danza Kuduro” has officially surpassed 2 billion streams on Spotify, making it the first song in his catalog to achieve the milestone and the 165th track in Spotify’s history to cross the 2-billion mark. Released on August 15, 2010, through Machete Music and Universal Music Latino, the track quickly became a global phenomenon, blending infectious Latin rhythms with African-inspired Kuduro beats.

Featuring Portuguese-French singer Lucenzo, the track is sung primarily in Spanish with Lucenzo’s verse delivered in European Portuguese—borrowed from his earlier hit “Vem Dançar Kuduro”. This unique linguistic fusion helped the song transcend borders and become a true “world music” anthem, with the Kuduro dance form originating in Angola and gaining popularity across Latin America, Europe, and beyon

“Danza Kuduro” topped the US Billboard Hot Latin Songs chart, giving Don Omar his second number-one on that list and Lucenzo his first. It also peaked at No. 1 on Nov. 12, 2010, on the Billboard Tropical Airplay Chart, spending 18 weeks atop

Elsewhere, it dominated charts across Latin America and Europe, cementing itself as one of the most successful Latin hits of the 2010s. The song gained even more traction after being featured in the blockbuster film Fast Five (2011), serving as the high-energy closing track on its official soundtrack.

The music video for the song was directed by Vincent Egret, with post-production by 4brostudio. It features Don Omar and Lucenzo showcasing luxury lifestyles in St. Martin with boat rides, flashy cars, and beach scenes with dancing women. A preview was shared on Don Omar’s Facebook on July 30, 2010, with the full video premiering on Vevo on August 17, 2010. It quickly gained traction, becoming the #3 most viewed video in the world shortly after release, and has since surpassed 1.6 billion views on YouTube as of April 2025.

Critically, the track earned praise for its cross-cultural appeal and driving beat, ranking #43 on Rolling Stone’s “Greatest Latin Pop Songs” list.

Its commercial success is just as impressive: the song earned 5xPlatinum certification in the United States for sales and streams surpassing 5 million units. It is also Platinum in the U.K. (600,000).
