History was made in Toronto on Sunday night as Drake joined Vybz Kartel on stage at the Scotiabank Arena, marking Kartel’s first-ever live performance in Canada and a monumental moment for Dancehall music.
The sold-out crowd erupted as the “World Boss” emerged under flashing red lights rocking a powder blue Toronto Blue Jays jersey with the number 3 on the back )signally his ‘3 peat’ set in Toronto), distressed black jeans, and white sneakers. He completes the look with a navy Blue Jays cap, giving his outfit a hometown connection and a celebratory energy fitting for the Toronto stage.
Kartel dropped a string of classics from his 20 year career spanning albums like Pon Di Gaza 2.0 and King of the Dancehall. But it was Drake’s surprise appearance midway through the set that sent the arena into chaos. Drizzy was rocking a leather green camouflage-patterned jacket and matching cargo trousers, paired with white sneakers.
Drake took a moment to salute Kartel — an artist he’s long cited as a major influence. Speaking directly to the crowd, the Toronto native said:
“You already shot off like 32 tonight. Yes, so I’m gonna ask a favor — I’m gonna give you a break because I know you. If it’s okay with you, for the sake of the Six and all these beautiful people that love you and waited to see you… all welcome home. We’re so happy to have you.”
The crowd roared as the two embraced, symbolizing a full-circle moment between dancehall and hip-hop’s global titans.
“I used to hand out fliers just os I can go inside the club to listen to your chune,” Drake revealed.
Kartel, who was released from prison last year after more than a decade behind bars, has been on a triumphant world run since his comeback concert in Kingston on New Year’s Eve 2024 and seven arena shows in the US. His VIKING (Deluxe 10th Anniversary) album remains a top seller on the Billboard Reggae Albums chart, and his North American tour has broken multiple records for reggae and dancehall ticket sales with the first tow selling over 8.4 million in ticket receipts.
Sunday’s Toronto stop — marks his 8th “World Boss Live” North American Tour. He is set to headline tomorrow night and then again on the 30th.
