Drake is officially bringing Vybz Kartel to Toronto for the first time on October 26 and 27 as part of his Champagne Day celebrations, with both artists announcing the news on social media Friday, September 26.
Kartel first told World Music Views of his intentions to tour Canada last year in out exclusive interview when he said he received offers from multiple promoters across the U.S., Canada, and the U.K..
Since then he has taken his Work’ Boss Tour to the U.S., Europe and the Caribbean but he is yet to venture into Canada.
The hardcore dancehall artist has defended Drake amid recent criticism from Kendrick Lamar’s Super Bowl diss track “Not Like Us.” In a Drink Champs interview with DJ EFN and N.O.R.E., Kartel was asked to choose between Drake and Kendrick and immediately said, “Drake.” He praised the Canadian rapper, noting, “Drake is big in Jamaica too, man,” and called him “like the Hip-Hop Michael Jackson.”
Kartel also highlighted Drake’s support of Jamaican artists, saying, “Plus, he did a lot for Popcaan and he reps the culture.” He acknowledged past debates over crediting on Drake’s VIEWS album but emphasized Jamaica’s perspective: “Drake reps Jamaica’s culture—to the point where people started calling him a culture vulture. But we don’t feel that way, not in Jamaica.”
Drake and Vybz Kartel shared stage during the finale of Wireless Festival 2025 in London as Drake put the spotlight on global music by bringing out dancehall King Kartel for his first U.K. performance in 20 years. After serving 13 years in prison, Kartel delivered a 90-minute set, performing hits like Picture This and teaming up with Spice on Romping Shop. “Twenty years I haven’t been here. It’s a pleasure,” Kartel said, visibly moved by the fan response.
Drake added, “Today, I really wanted to pay my respect to the performers. Bringing the Worl’ Boss home to London after 20 years, making sure that he got time to headline his set.” Alongside Kartel, Drake also shared the stage with Popcaan, Central Cee, and others, showcasing his ability to unite artists from around the world.
