Dua Lipa is setting the bar high with her latest release, “Training Season,” which hit streaming platforms on February 15, 2024.
The pop sensation made waves last month when she teased the single on TikTok, expressing her frustration with subpar romantic prospects. With lyrics like “I need someone to hold me close, deeper than I’ve ever known/ Whose love feels like a rodeo, knows just how to take control,” Lipa isn’t holding back in her quest for a fulfilling relationship.
In a statement accompanying the release, Lipa shared that the song was born out of a string of disappointing dates. “The last one was the final straw,” she wrote. “The next morning I arrived at the studio to Caroline [Ailin] and Tobias [Jesso Jr.] asking me how it all went, and I immediately declared ‘TRAINING SEASON IS OVER.’ Like the best ‘day after’ debriefs with your mates, we had a lot of laughs, and it all quickly came together from there.”
But “Training Season” isn’t just about romantic frustrations; it’s also a testament to personal growth and empowerment. Lipa reflects on her journey, feeling more confident and clear than ever before. “While it is obviously about that feeling when you are just absolutely done telling people… men specifically in this case, how to date you right; it is also about my training season being over and me growing with every experience,” she shared.
The track made its debut at the 2024 Grammy Awards earlier this month, adding to Lipa’s already impressive accolades. Her previous album, “Future Nostalgia,” released in 2020, peaked at No. 3 on the Billboard 200 charts and garnered critical acclaim, winning Best Pop Vocal Album at the 2021 Grammy Awards.
‘Houdini,’ the first single from her forthcoming album was certified Platinum in Canada for selling 80,000 units on February 15, 2024.
